Two popular farriery competitions have joined forces to hold a July weekend of competitions for farriers in Scotland.
On Saturday 12th the competitions will start at the Echt Show with the Open Hunter Shoeing class and the Apprentice Hunter Shoe Making class where farriers will be competing for the Donald and Alick Nicol trophies.
4 more classes will follow on Sunday 13th at Belwade Farm, Aboyne, the Scottish Centre of the International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH) where they will be in their 6th year of holding farriery competitions. Here the first class of the day will be Open Therapeutic Shoes followed by Apprentice Shoe Making then an Open Eagle Eye and an Apprentice Eagle Eye.
Farriers at ILPH Belwade Farm will be competing for the Woodside Veterinary Group Trophy and the Schiehallion Trophy for Seniors and Apprentices respectively.
This year the competitions will be sponsored for the first time by two very well known names in the farriery field – Brooks Lane will support the apprentice overall competitions while Stromsholm will sponsor the Seniors overall.
The ILPH competition will be held mainly in their new purpose built forge, opened by HRH the Princess Royal last year, which has already proved to be an invaluable asset for farriers in the North of Scotland.
Generous cash prizes to winners and placings and Saturday night entertainment at Belwade Farm for all competitors mean that it is weekend not to be missed !
