Petsmiles were informed today that more than 5,000 small animals converged on the Doncaster Exhibition Centre for this year’s Bradford Championship Show, the Crufts of the small animal world, sponsored by Burgess Supa Rabbit.
And this year’s prestigious Best In Show (Guinea Pig) award went to Melanie Mayo’s eight-month-old Peruvian cavy, Gaiety Girl.
Melanie, who lives in North Walsham, has been breeding and showing cavies (Guinea Pigs) for many years.
Said Melanie: “It is wonderful to win this top honour. This is my fifth Best In Show win, but I am just thrilled to have won again. Peruvian cavies take a such a lot of preparation, it is fabulous to see the results come in!’
Sponsors Burgess Supafeeds were delighted with the success of the event which as well as competitions also provided rabbit, guinea pig and small animal enthusiasts with the opportunity to learn more about welfare issues and caring for their pets.
All competitors went away with a water bottle provided by Burgess Supafeeds and Classic Pet Products.
“Students from Bishop Burton College near Beverley provided an excellent display with a great deal of information on the best way to look after and care for small animals.
“The aim was to promote small animal welfare and explain what rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and other small animals require in terms of environment and nutrition to lead happy, healthy lives.”
Throughout the two day show visitors showed a lot of interest in both the Supa Rabbit and Supa Guinea Excel? products from Burgess Supafeeds which are now a popular food with breeders and pet owners. The new Supa Rabbit Excel Lite, for the more rotund rabbit was launched at the Show and proved to be another big winner.
